Today’s blogpost will be all about following your dream. Well, aren’t we all doing that? Everybody has an idea of what they want in life, no?
Some people want to live in a big house, or want to ride a fancy car, others work really hard to get that specific job or someone else really wants to meet that important person,… We all have many dreams, one crazier then the other.
I used to have a dream of hosting a birthday party in a big castle where everybody had to be dressed up like Mme De Pompadour. I just loved those really big dresses which almost didn’t get you through the door! And men wearing tights and shoes with buckles on them. Oh my…I think by now I’m pretty sure none of my friends will be happy or willing to go through that. I mean they love me and all but there are certain limits ;-)
What I did do a couple of years ago is hire that castle (an affordable mini version of it) and invite some close friends and just enjoyed a weekend together for my birthday. I still have some very fond memories of that weekend so sometimes it’s not bad to adjust some of your dreams to make them come true.
And that’s exactly what we sometimes need to do with our dreams. How big or crazy they can be. If you start by scaling them down into a realistic form they might just happen faster. I’m not saying you shouldn’t dream big!!! I’m saying it has to have some kind of realistic elements in it.
If you dream of riding a unicorn on top of a rainbow it might take you some time to achieve that ;-)
If you really want to follow your dream instead of talking about you wanting to follow your dream you will have to take some ACTION. As with everything in life, you need to really DO something in order to get somewhere. Ah but Inez, you say, that is so obvious and you’re not telling us anything new! No, I’m not.
But the fact is that few people really do take the necessary action in order to change or to get what they want. If it is loosing weight, stop smoking, save money, change your job,…It often feels like there’s a gigantic mountain in front of us that we need to climb to get to our destination. And I think you’ll agree with me that nobody ever tried to climb Mount Everest in just 1 time?
Of course not because that is impossible. They do it in different steps and they know exactly what steps they are taking to go where they want to be.
It’s the same with achieving your dreams. First you really have to understand what exactly it is you want and why you want it. The WHY part is as important because this will be your motivator in difficult times. (If you’re interested in finding out the exact what and why in a more clear way I will be organizing vision board workshops where you can learn how to visualize your dream and from there work on it more focused. It’s actually a very fun and creative workshop but you don’t need to be a creative person for this)
When you figured out your what and why you can start planning the different steps you need to take so you won’t get overwhelmed. It’s like planning a project for your work/hobby. You know what the end result needs to be and you start working backwards to figure out what needs to be done and when.
A 35 y old woman,176 cm (5’9”) who weighs 87 kilo (192 pounds) and wants to loose 10 kg (22 pounds)
In general it’s best not to loose more weight than ½ to 1 kilo each week.
In order to loose 1 kilo you’ll have to cut around 7700 calories. (You can find this info on the internet) That’s about 550 calories each day in order to loose ½ kilo each week. The amount of calories necessary depends on gender, daily activity, level of fitness, age,…
This woman exercises an hour each week so she needs 2300 calories to maintain her weight, if we adjust this according to the calories that need to be cut she shouldn’t eat more than 1750 calories each day in order to loose ½ kilo each week. If she wants to loose 10 kg she will need about 20 weeks to get to her goal/dream
This is just an example of course but it’s shows you how you could proceed in order to get things done!
I am using this same system myself because otherwise I would still be dreaming instead of taking action.
My dream is to earn a steady income by helping people:
- to eat healthy: create & share easy to make recipes, provide nutritional information about products to create awareness, organize healthy food tours, food workshops…
- to live a healthy lifestyle: provide tips from my own experience to relieve stress, avoid burn out, get clarity in your life, organize your mind, stop caring about what other people think of you, follow your dreams,… This can be in the form of online coaching, live coaching, an e book, vision board workshop, podcast,…
And I would like to do all of this from the comfort of my own house in sunny Spain.
So you see, I too dare to dream big! But because I know exactly what I want in life and working really hard in getting there step by step (and maybe fail sometimes!!!) I am 100% sure I will be living my full dream one day. Luckily I’m already living a part of it right now being in sunny Spain at the moment and writing to you in this blog ;-)
If you’re really focused on following your dream but you may need a bit of help on the way? Maybe you would like to follow a vision board workshop or you’re ready to get clear on your goals through coaching? Let me know in the comments or send me an e mail.
And don’t forget: the wisest investment you can ever make is in yourself!
Free your mind and the rest will follow!!
